With 2018 coming to a close, we are reflecting on what a great year it’s been for Ocho.
We harvested two new fields this year: Las Presas and El Bajío. Ocho was featured in Drinks International’s Brand Report, listed as #1 Top Trending Brand, #2 Best Selling Brand, #2 Best Margarita and #10 Favourite Brand across all spirit categories. We launched Ocho in new markets including Croatia, Slovakia, Romania and Bahrain.
We also re-launched our sister brand, Curado, this year in London, Valladolid, and Mexico City.
In 2019, we will be releasing our first field to be ‘re-harvested’ – El Vergel – which was first harvested in 2007 and again this year 2018. We are set to launch Ocho in South Africa, Russia, Japan and Vietnam early next year.
Ocho is featured as a ‘Preferred Agave Spirit’ on the cocktail menu at La Fonda Hotel, the most famous hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Looking for Christmas gifts? Well look no further…
Don’t forget we are selling our Value Added Package in the US. The pack consists of two branded Tequila Tasting Glasses, an Ocho Field Guide with Cocktail Recipe Suggestions, and a bottle of the current Vintage and Estate of Tequila Ocho Plata.
Where We’re Drinking this Month
Death & Company, NYC
Death & Company has been a mainstay of the New York City cocktail bar scene since the bar opened almost 12 years ago, and is a favourite of local residents and bartenders alike. This month we’re drinking their ‘Full Sail’ cocktail: Tequila Ocho Plata, pineau de charantes, granny smith apple, lime juice and vanilla.
What We’re Drinking this Month
With the festive season upon us, why not shake things up and enjoy a twist on the classic Mexican drink rompope?
(serves 4-6 people)
2 1/2 cups white sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
6 cups (1.5 liters) whole milk (or use almond milk for a dairy-free alternative)
15 egg yolks
1 cup (250ml) Tequila Ocho Añejo
Combine first 3 ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil over low heat. Continue to boil mixture, stirring constantly, until milk has reduced by a little more than a third (about 20 minutes). Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Beat egg yolks with an electric mixer until thick and pale. Mix in a little of the warm milk. Pour egg yolk mixture into the saucepan and bring to a boil over low heat. Stir constantly and scrape bottom and sides of saucepan until mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, around 5 minutes. Remove from heat, fish out cinnamon sticks, and cool to lukewarm. Stir in tequila and allow to cool completely.
Until next month, stay well & sipping good tequila,
